David Schacht, Founder and CEO


Founder and CEO of ImpactMarkets, David is an avid social entrepreneur with over 16 years experience in international business, market strategy and emerging markets consulting in North America, Europe, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia.  He has managed successful engagements in over 50 countries, across diverse disciplines of business to business (B2B) and business to consumer (B2C) market research, investment promotion, export development, public-private partnerships, corporate social responsibility, trade capacity building, transportation and logistics competitiveness, international marketing strategy, and business intelligence services. 

David Schacht grew up in the heartland of Iowa, but his heart led him to explore languages, cultures and economic development through work and travel across five continents. He has an MA in International Economics and Emerging Markets Studies with Distinction from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, and an AB in Economics, Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Chicago.  Prior to founding ImpactMarkets, David was Director of West Coast Research at Gerson Lehrman Group (GLG), assisting hedge fund, venture capital, private equity and institutional investor segments with their global due diligence.  While at GLG, David co-authored the firm's first Social Impact Strategy.  Previously, David was Vice President of Market Linkages and Latin America at CARANA Corporation, a leading economic development and social impact consulting firm in Washington, DC.  In this capacity, he led business development and managed the firm's portfolio of programs in market linkages and transport and logistics in Latin America and Africa – linking entrepreneurs in developing economies to developed market value chains. In partnership with the firm's founder, David developed the strategic plan and initial launch of a first-in-kind Social Investment Promotion Agency for the country of Costa Rica.  While at the Corporate Executive Board (NYSE: CEB) he advised Fortune 500 companies on best practices in global sourcing, supply chain management and international marketing strategy.  

David was the first Young Alumnus to be invited to serve on the prestigious Bologna Center Advisory Council of the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies.  He is fluent in French and Spanish, and is conversant in Portuguese and Italian.  You can follow him on Twitter or LinkedIn.
